A guy at work has a 2006 Cadillac CTS with a stick. It’s not the “V” performance version, just the plain old CTS. He says he got it for a steal almost 10 years ago from the dealer. They couldn’t move a full sized Caddy with a stick and he’s been driving it ever since.
I never knew........

Nice try friend, the CTS is considered a “mid-size” the STS was the full size.

Was it? Yea, I guess you’re right. Thing seemed YUGE in the parking lot.

They were stickable, but I think it only came with the Bad V6

Yeah, full sized in Yourup perhaps. Not a small car though, and yes, early CTS could be had with a stick.
Heck, go back ~15 years, and you could actually spec an E-class with a 5-speed. Few did, but they exist - this is a legit USDM car:

My co worker has 100K+ on his with no engine problems . I have no idea how it drives. Maybe it’s a total dog?

My brother had a second-gen CTS (3.6) with a stick. That car was slightly bigger, but an oddball nonetheless.

They made the second generation CTS non-V with a stick also, if I remember correctly.

Cool. Have you ever driven it? Seems like such an odd car to have a manual in.

I thought it was possible to get the wagon with the V6 and the manual, but I can’t find any for sale now.

4-cylinder, but they’re out here. 300 E with a stick. Low miles too. Un-necessary car shopping results:

That’s a grey market car, but still cool, and decently equipped - ROW cars could be sparse. All US spec 300E were I6, I think the manual could be optioned through maybe MY 88 or 89. There was also a 5-speed 300SL (R129) available in the US at the beginning of that platform.

I think V6s across the range had timing issues but one of them was worse than the others

That’s a compact.

This is why I stayed away from them, there were some that were dirt cheap because the V6 had problems. Seemed like a nice way to get into a RWD manual trans car but I didn’t want to take the plunge on another GM car

Not too many years ago, you could get a C300 with a stick and the 220hp V6 . Not a bad little car!

No, I don’t think so. The ATS is the compact. The CTS is mid sized. Standing next to it in the parking lot it seems mid to large sized (just compared to other cars in the lot).

The first generation was sized in between the 3-Series and 5-Series, it grew into a proper intermediate when the ATS came along

Yep, early W204 maybe up until around 2009/10 or so. Same for SLK of that era, I believe.
Could also find a manual in earlier W203 C-class (4 cyl only I think) and early SLK. I suspect we don’t see those return anytime soon.

Yes - it was fast, handled like it was on rails, and the V6 liked to rev, but the shifter itself wasn’t great - 6-speed, too easy to mistake reverse for first. I was driving an S197 Mustang At that time, and the Tremec 5-speed was 100x better.

Yeah Caddy’s line up was intentionally offset a bit in size I believe. They were targeting the Germans and I think they wanted to try and fill gaps. Need more space than a 3 series but don’t quite need a 5 series (or can’t afford the 5) check out our CTS! (same applies to A4/A6 at Audi)
The CTS is barely bigger (if at all) than the Mercury Milan I drove for 7.5 years. And the Milan is firmly a mid-size.

The first gen CTS was pre-ATS and smaller than the generations that followed. It was successor to the compact Catera (what the “C” in CTS stands for.)
